I-Sobot Build Report

The I-Sobot comes fully assembled, so the following review is more an "un-boxing" than a build
report.  But we'll take you through the steps to get started, and show you what you get.

Note:  If you have purchased the I-Sobot as a gift, you might want to open the box and charge the batteries before
presenting your gift.  The I-Sobot takes
6 hours to charge its batteries the first time.  That might put a damper on
your holiday if you are sitting around waiting for that long before you can play with it.  See the battery discussion
below for details.
INSTRUCTIONS:

Inside the plastic pouch you will find a 34 page Instruction Manual (in English), Warranty and Battery information
cards, and a two sided Action Table which details all of the codes needed to get the I-Sobot to perform over 180
motions.  We found the instruction manual to be well written.  The manual suggests the robot is for ages 10+, but
it might be a stretch for a 10 year old to handle the complexity of just how much this robot can do.
With over 180 possible motions to chose from, you will definitely need this quick reference card.
BATTERIES:

The I-Sobot comes with 3 AAA rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydride batteries from eneloop, and a battery charger.  Fortunately, the battery
charger fits both AAA and AA batteries.  You can see from the photo below how the AAA batteries fit into the charger.

The charger instruction manual says that charging the batteries for the first time can take 6 hours, and that is exactly how long it took our
batteries to charge.  When the green LED light on the charger is on, that means the batteries are charging.  The batteries are finished
charging when the light goes off.

After the initial charge, we were able to use the I-Sobot for 90 minutes.  This far exceeded the manufacturer's claim of "approximately 60
minutes under normal conditions, when fully charged".  Your results may vary.  After the initial use, the batteries took another 6 hours to
charge.  You might want to invest in a second set of batteries to extend your use time with the robot.

NOTE:  These robots are not meant for children.  All of the humanoid robot models discussed on this website use
powerful servos that can pinch or even crush your fingers if you are not careful.  Consult the recommended minimum
age from the manufacturer before allowing children to use any of these robots.
THE BOX:

The I-Sobot comes in this nice silver box,
with a cut-out in the middle so you can see
the robot inside.

Flip open the lid and you can see all the
contents; the robot, controller, batteries and
charger.

The controller is smaller than
we expected, only about 4
inches by 3 inches.
